Shri Ajai Das Mehrotra, an IRS Officer of 1984, batch retired as Pr.Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in November, 2020. He was Member (Technical/Administration) of Gujarat Real Estate Appellate Tribunal, Gandhinagar, and later National Company Law Tribunal, before joining National Company Law Appellate Tribunal.

Shri Mehrotra is MSc.(Geology) from University of Lucknow, M.Sc. in Economics from Birmingham University (UK), LL.B from Meerut University, and M.Phil in Social Sciences from the University of Madras. He has also done Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Law from Indian Law Institute, Delhi.

In his service of 36 years in IRS, he has held various positions in Income tax Department in Nagpur, Jodhpur, Moradabad, Jabalpur, Kanpur, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Outside the Income tax Department, he has worked in the Enforcement Directorate, Engineers India Ltd., GAIL India Ltd. and as Joint Secretary in Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Shri Mehrotra has attended various trainings in India and abroad including trainings in UK, USA, Canada, Israel, Poland and Kazakhstan. He was Member of the Governing Council of Institute of Cost Accountants of India and was Member of National Advisory Committee on Accounting Standards (NACAS) of Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Shri Mehrotra is recipient of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Award for Development Administration and the Commandant’s Prize of National Defense College. He was awarded “Certificate of Excellence in Taxpayer Services” on the Income Tax Day – 2018 and “Best Administrator” award on the Income Tax Day- 2019.
